Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
Why Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?
One of the reasons that I appreciate doing this work is that ketamine can help many folks loosen the natural defenses of everyday consciousness. Even if they are aware of these, many people have a hard time shaking those well-trodden defenses in traditional talk therapy and start to feel stuck, unable to make changes in their life. This is true for people even if they really like their therapist, believe in the power of therapy or those that they feel like they understand their problems on an intellectual level. Ketamine is a tool that can help many people go deeper than they ever have before, even after years of talk therapy. This can be because healing becomes possible once we get down into the deeper, root causes of the patterns keeping you stuck and allow you to feel the full breadth of your experience.
One of the more compelling things about ketamine is that there is evidence that shows increases in neural plasticity, meaning changes made from KAP might be more lasting.
Even with these profound impacts, KAP has been shown to be incredibly safe for many psychotherapy patients. One does need to be medically cleared and screened ketamine by a medical prescriber, but evidence shows us that with the proper protections, this can be a safe way to have profound effects with .
I only see folks working with psycholytic dosing of ketamine, meaning the dosing is lower and does not lead to experiences of losing sense of self or consciousness, which adds to the safety of this experience.
Key Components of the KAP Process
New clients first schedule a consultation call to ensure goodness of fit for both working with me and KAP in general
You would also schedule a medical Consultation with prescriber (I will provide referrals)
We would then schedule an initial session to get history, build our therapeutic relationship and discuss treatment plan moving forward and determine next steps for dosing sessions. In some cases we may do more than one session prior to a dosing session.
Dosing sessions are typically 90 minutes or 2 hours, determined based on clinical recommendation and your comfort. For those wanting an intensive therapy experience, 3-hour+ sessions are also available.
Processing/integration sessions are typically scheduled a few days after dosing sessions to ensure that insights and experiences are integrated. We would also discuss next steps in the treatment plan to move forward.
